The Position The Director will direct and coordinate activities and programs across multiple divisions within the regional public utilities to ensure operational efficiency and excellence. The position will manage economic development projects and other high-priority projects assigned by the City Manager, Council, and other agencies to ensure timely completion of deliverables. He or she will be an expert in preparing and delivering reports and presentations on economic development and other relevant matters to City Council members and executives. The Director will communicate effectively both orally and in writing to establish strategic priorities across the portfolio, respond to external inquiries and overcome political and operational challenges, draft and maintain contracts in partnership with regional partners, manage state and federal grants, and oversee the planning and implementation of the Capital Improvement Program and procurement activities. The Director will serve as a subject matter expert, problem solver, advisor, and negotiator on various projects. The Director will be able to provide counsel to the Assistant City Manager and City Manager on sensitive and policy-making matters as staff advisor and participate in external stakeholder meetings relating to the community’s overall growth. Collaborating with city officials, the Director will be able to resolve complications and streamline processes for efficiency. The Director will meet with the management staff to identify and resolve issues, to assign projects, and review various work methods and procedures. The Director will be experienced in assisting with the overall management of the department and be able to perform professional and administrative duties to ensure seamless functioning of the regional public utilities. Qualifications Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree.
